About Wrecks of Truk Lagoon

FULLY BOOKED - This trip is now fully booked, please email us to be put on the waiting list, info@exposureexpeditions.com.

Wreck paradise - Truk Lagoon off the island of Chuuk, lies in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. This legendary lagoon is home to over 60 ships and 250 aircraft from WWII. Truk is a wreck lovers wet dream and leading this adventure is our wreck and tech pro - Micke Wolhardt.

Why so many wrecks? - During the Second World War the Japanese Imperial Fleet used Truk to hide their forward anchorage. Then in 1944 the Americans flew in and bombed the fleet into annihilation. The end result is that today there are over 60 ships and in excess of 250 airplanes that sank - many of which are complete and diveable. The perpetual warm water, lush corals and thriving marine life keeps divers coming back for more.

Blue Lagoon Resort - The hotel blends perfectly with the island's tropical and serene atmosphere. You can enjoy a view of the lagoon from the balcony of all of the rooms. Just outside your hotel room you can meander through the palm shaded gardens to the white sand beach for a refreshing swim in the clear lagoon.

The diving - Of course will the main park of the diving be focused on the wrecks, but you do not have to be a technical diver to join this trip, many of the wrecks are located in shallow water. The wrecks cargos are nearly as fascinating as the ships themselves. The holds are packed with all manner of munitions, trucks and airplane parts. Apart from all the wrecks you also have a big chance to spot sharks and rays and the wrecks are covered with beautiful hard and soft corals.

Micke Wolhardt has over 20 years of experience with diving, 15 of which have been focused on advanced diving on wrecks, Micke has a lot of tips and tricks to share. Joining Micke on a wreck diving trip adds flavour to the experience and a new dimension to the wreck diving.  “My goal is for everyone to appreciate and understand what a fantastic trip through time wreck diving offers with the right tools and knowledge”.

Wreck-workshop
Wreck diving can vary depending on the wreck and the environment. During the workshop you will have the chance to increase your knowledge within the subject of wreck diving. Plenty of tips and tricks will be provided. We will cover the following during the trip:

Proper use of line handling and reeling - Manoeuvring and swim techniques  - Equipment configuration -How to navigate and find the “good” parts of the wreck - Dive planning

Questions about wreck diving? Micke Wolhardt will give briefings during the trip. In plenty of time prior to the trips departure, you will be sent an email giving tips about what is good to have with you on this adventure. For questions about wreck diving or the workshop please contact Micke Wohlhardt via email: micke@swedtechdiving.se

About Truk Lagoon - Micronesia - Pacific Ocean

"I have been blessed to be able to dive in many beautiful places during my dive career, but Truk Lagoon is in a category of its own, right at the top of the list. To dive the well-preserved and historically interesting wrecks that are contained in a relatively small area is incredible. Add the fact that the water temperature is about 30C and visibility is 20-50 meters and you almost have perfection." säger expeditionsledaren Micke Bergström.

Chuuk state (or Truk Lagoon) consists of seven major island groups lying within the Eastern Caroline Islands, southeast of Guam and southwest of Hawaii.

The Pacific is a place of dreams. The name alone conjures up visions of endless sunny days and a blue horizon, stretching out to infinity. Yet it is not just the paradise surface side that draws us here. The Pacific is a diver's delight and beneath the waves are unimaginable sights. Not least of these is Truk Lagoon. Located in the middle of the expansive ocean this mystical lagoon is shaped like an o-ring, clearly visible from the sky.

Wrecks of Truk Lagoon day by day

Wednesday November 8

We leave Scandinavia and get on the plane to Manila, Philippines. We might even leave on November 7 depending on the flight schedule.

Thursday November 9

We arrive to Manila and make a stopover for the night. This since it is separate flight tickets between Scandinavia and Manila and Manila and Truk Lagoon and we want to make it safer in case we run in to any delays. We get transfer to a hotel close to Manila Airport and we stay there for 1-2 nights depending on the flight schedule. The extra cost for the stay in Manila will be presented together with the flight booking.

Friday November 10

We leave Manila and fly to Truk Lagoon through Guam. When we arrive we will get transfer to Blue Lagoon Resort. No evening activities.

Saturday November 11 - Saturday November 18

Diving days! Two guided boat dives a day with full focus on wrecks. Some of the evenings you will have inspiring presentations with Micke Bergström.

Sunday November 19

Today we make two early morning dives, this to get enough time between last dive and flight.

Monday November 20 - Wednesday November 22

Time to check out from Blue Lagoon Resort and catch the transfer back to the airport. Today we will fly back to Manila, through Guam. Most likely we will land the same day. We will get transfer back to the hotel in Manila, where we will be staying 1-2 night (extra cost) before we leave to fly back home.

Please Note!

The dates might change a day or two back or forward, since we do not know the flight schedule yet. When flights get published, around 10 month before departure we can confirm exact dates and the need of extra nights along the way.
